We finally poured concrete! Our second week, it seemed like the construction process flew by. At the start of Monday, we only had our footings framed out; and by the end of Friday, we had basement walls filled with concrete. The time between the two events seemed more of a blur than anything else. The ICFs are amazing and assemble very quickly. Many of the spectators who stopped by our site seemed confused and rather skeptical of what they call our “Styrofoam House,” but once we explained that we would pour concrete into the cavity, criticism transformed into excited interest. I look forward to the continuing weeks of construction, as all of our drawings and computer models come to life. As a student, I can think of few things that rival not only being able to see your design come to life before your eyes, but to also be a part of the amazing team of individuals that is making it all happen.
