Construction Week 3:

Several significant things went on this week and the progress is really beginning to show. We continued with laying the ICFs for the main floor of the house. Two courses above the floor are stacked, completed with rebar and securely tied together. The ICFs used here are narrower than those for the basement, creating a space for the rim and sill to rest and a place for the joist holders to be nailed in.

The supporting piers made of CMUs (concrete block) were done by the end of Tuesday. We aquired both masonry skills and patience in building these. They must be precisely level and square and it was tedious work. Perhaps the most dramatic change this week was the installation of the floor joists. We notched them and put them into place, spanning the area that will be the living room. On top of these we have begun to lay the sub-floor. We are anxious to continue!
