more time has passed, than we would have liked, since our last post. Save for landscaping, it's snowing much like it does back home today [in quebec that is] and the end of our project is no close we can smell it.
it has been quite the ride to say the least. design-building a 5000 sq. ft. LEED registered, advanced energy compliant, NC Health and Human Services licensed home for 5 teenage moms and their children - within the framework of an academic design studio - has been an herculean undertaking to say the least. we can say for a second time, we did it man and, oh yeah, we rocked it baby!
We should be finished in the next 2 weeks or so -- including a prompt holiday interlude -- with the barrage of inspections and certifications to follow. our open house is scheduled for late January and occupancy of my sisters' house shortly after.

This project sounds awesome. I hope it does make it into Dwell Magazine, which is where I first learned about your design studio class from the article on the Marshalls' home. If you ever have openings for unskilled labor (me) on your projects during summer months, I would love to help. What you are doing I have only dreamed about doing. I think it is great because I understand the need for affordable, green and energy efficient housing for single parents and low income families. I have seen a number of families who have to decide to go without heat or electricity because their rental homes are so energy in-efficient and costly to maintain all utilities especially in the winter months.
